four, even

Okay, I think that was the first show I’ve done where an audience member actually threatened to pull an actual gun on someone. Sweet. Yay, barprov. But we made six bucks each! Woo! Come on down next week, y’all!

A few weeks ago, I got a speeding ticket. Last week, I went to court and got it reduced, but I still have to pay some and do the class thing. Yesterday, I got a postcard in the mail for a “Comedy Defensive Driving” class, that takes care of the ticket reduction requirements. Today, I signed up for the class.

This may be a ridiculously bad idea, but I’m compelled to see exactly how bad it will be.

Good rehearsal for the Office Party show, got some science from Wallace that will prove most useful. Good Flywheel meeting at Dan’s, got the con debrief and got some more stuff rolling. Good day for science, Paidia got some tasty medicillin for her ear infection, so hopefully there’ll be less crying and hollering at night. I feel like I went out and did more stuff today, or stayed in and did more stuff, but I’m looking around, and the stuff that I meant to do didn’t get done. There’s always tomorrow. And then, eating and sleeping and other good stuff.

And check it out, this is me totally not bitching about stuff that’s rightfully bitch-worthy. Keep all that ire boxed up inside, and use it as fuel to make junk happen. Or to explode out of my floppy mouth the next time more than a couple of beers go into it. Focus!

Too late for more. Later, more.

Hey, we’ve got a new set of OnWarcraft videos up on the OnNetworks thinger. I haven’t watched them yet, but I think this is from the set that we filmed after I got about forty minutes of sleep and then drove back down here from Dallas (about three hours or so) after doing Doom at the Sinus show at QuakeCon in July, so I’m punchy as all heck. Should be entertaining.

Also, dork factor one million, so brace yourselves.

Oh-em-gee, I have no idea where all these new games are going to go. Or the old ones, for that matter. I need to move all the tradeables somewhere innocuous, and then figure out which ones are the premium games that will either actually get played, or just look good – those get to go on the shelves up front. Then it’s time to hollow out the rear guard bookshelves again, put the stuff I’m never ever going to read or refer to again into storage with the rest, move some of the front line books (mostly SF paperbacks and Feynman/Fuller works) into a place of honor back there, and start filling out those with boxes of fun. I think I’m pretty full up for a while -no more buying games until the WizWar reprint comes out. Board games, anyway.

Speaking of, if I haven’t bothered you into playing WeeWar yet, consider yourself officially bugged.

Full con report still to come, but the short version is: played some thirty-odd games, most of them new to me, got my hands on a bunch of new awesome stuff from Essen, sold out a big box of Honeypot games that I brought – fifteen or so, but it seems like more since I gave a few away, too, in the math trades and as prizes and to some pivotal folks – and Dan and Ian, the other Flywheel guys also sold out of all the games they brought. (There was also a potentially exciting development with Taktika that I’m not at liberty to discuss yet, but, woot.) I ran an eight person Honeypot tournament, which went really well, and got to playtest a new game (Fluffy Bunny Tea Party) with a large group of new people – it was really well received, everyone had a great time, and I got some very good feedback on it, which I’ll be working up directly. There’s a whole mess of unsorted photos up on my flickr – paw through to get a feel, and I’ll write some more come tomorrow.

I missed the IFE Wafflefest show on Friday (or was it Saturday?) due to the con, but I hear they had a super awesome show, which is good to hear. Yay, everyone playing well together. We’ve got rehearsal tomorrow night for our upcoming improvised Office Christmas Party (coming to the Hideout mainstage in December for two weeks), which I’m very excited about. After that, it’s off to Dan’s for the Flywheel debrief. Also, got some paying work to catch up on. I hear there’s a big holiday this week, too. Fun week coming up.

Okay, I’m off to BGG.Con until Sunday. Hopefully, I’ll return in time for the post-Wafflefest AIC awards and potluck dinner, but chances are seriously good that I won’t, sad. Someone give my regards to all if I don’t make it. Internets are likely to be spotty, so just imagine I’m posting this for the next couple of days: “I played some games! I’m in Dallas! There’s a lot of nerds here! Games! So, Dallas, huh? Okay, time to go home!”

Man.  I’m “packing light” this time, and still – way too much crap. I gotta figure that out one of these days.

Our two highlights of the day (besides my awesome pre-holiday present): the ticket, and the barprov.

I was issued a speeding ticket (60 in a 45, tsk, tsk) coming up the ass-end of Manchaca from a Flywheel meeting a few weeks ago, and today was my day to fight The Man. Unfortunately, The Man has a very loose handle on how the whole time and specificity thing works, and I wound up hanging out at the courthouse on East 7th for close to two hours waiting for stuff to start, and then finish. I hadn’t changed the address on my license since we bought the house (like, five years ago) either, and apparently that’s like a hundred seventy bucks they scam off you for that, but I was all charming and shit and got that dropped, got the speeding ding reduced by sixty bucks or so, and I’ll sit through the lame traffic school thing online to make it all go away. I could have fought the power and taken it to court and all, but the time just isn’t worth it for me – better to drop some bucks into the donut fund than to waste all those (potentially) billable hours. And it’s not like I can read or work on my seekrit planz or anything while I’m hanging out there – there’s always some irate/insane dude sitting next to you that really needs to vent, even though it’s REALLY OBVIOUS that you’ve got your face in a book specifically in order to ignore his crazy ass. Ah, well. So, that’s done with.

Home, quick dinner, put on my brand new shirt with buttons and everything, and head on down to Ego’s for some barprov with Buckman’s new rag-tag band of improvisers. It’s a fun group, and we’ve stitched together a nice hour and a half or so of solid stuff to keep the drunks occupied with, and we just had a blast with it. Some quick commando scenes to warm up, some short-form games, a 20-25 minute montage, and then we bring people up to jam and whatnot before diving into the beers in earnest. And we actually get the door money, so, a couple bucks to go towards those beers. Not bad for hanging out and making shit up for an couple of hours. I think we’ll be doing this every Wednesday night at 9pm for at least a month there, maybe more, so, check it.

Now, I’ve got to scramble and get myself all packed and organized – clothes, games, sundries, more games, prototype materials, etc – and grab a couple hours of sleep before rising at the ungodly hour of… well, I have to be at Nuke’s at 7am for the big drive up to Dallas, so, early. CONNNNNNNN!

Hot. Shit.

Space Hulk!

This was ostensibly a Christmas present from Bernie, but I’ve put enough points into my Badgering skill over the years that it became just a plain old present. I mean, seriously, there’s no sense in sticking a perfectly playable game in the closet for a couple of months when you can bust it out immediately. No sense at all. Besides, I was watching the same auction – I would have grabbed it myself if she hadn’t sniped me, so it’s only fair, really.

Bernie is awesome.

New crown on the hurty tooth. Still hurts. Ow.

Lots of running around today. Dentist, post office (First international order of HoneyPot! Woo! From Kevan Davis, no less.), office, bank, hobby store, undisclosed-because-it’s-embarrasing-to-me chain clothing store to get a “real shirt”, quick food and work, and then off to Dan’s for the Flywheel meeting to get a round-up and whatnot of all the game stuff before the con on Thursday. Whew.

Ow.

Big day tomorrow, too. More work to finish up before I head to Dallas for the weekend, another in a long, long line of expensive and annoying allergy shots, then down to the courthouse to show up for my speeding ticket hearing, in hopes that they’re nice and drop it, then our first show with Buckman’s new troupe at Ego’s, then frantic packing for a 6am departure the next morning.

Ow.

Just a little more webernets work tonight, and then a little sleep, maybe. Unless I get kicked awake for snoring again. Ow.
